11.7 in
of new fiberglass to reach R-38
$2,100 – $3,350
Planning range. Not a bid.
About R-9 there now. The range is new fill plus a normal air seal. It does not include removal, a soaked attic, or foam on the roof deck.
What the number leaves out
An 1,800 sq ft attic with 4 inches of settled fiberglass needs about 11.7 inches of new fiberglass to reach R-38. That planning range is $2,100 – $3,350. Move the sliders if your house is bigger, which a lot of Wellington and Royal Palm floors are.
Cellulose costs more per inch because it is denser, and it also reaches R-38 in less depth. The right one depends on what's already there.
Insulation removal and spray foam are separate jobs. Don't use this range for either one.
Planner questions
How much does attic insulation cost in West Palm Beach?
A planning range, not a bid. An 1,800 sq ft attic with 4 inches of settled fiberglass needs about 11.7 inches of new fiberglass to reach R-38. That range is $2,100–$3,350. Bigger attics cost more. Removal, a hard attic, and spray foam are not in the number.
Is the attic planner a quote?
No. It is a planning range from attic size, existing depth, and material. Removal, a hard attic, foam, and repairs are not in the number. The bid comes after we see the hatch or clear photos.
Why does 4 inches read as about R-9?
Settled fiberglass is roughly R-2.2 to R-2.5 per inch. Four inches is about R-9. Florida's code floor for these attics is R-30. Our blown-in standard is R-38, which is about 11.7 more inches of fiberglass on that attic.
Does the range include air sealing?
A normal air seal is assumed: cans, top plates, chases, bath fans, and the hatch. It does not include carpentry, a new hatch, or baffles for a closed soffit.
What if the old insulation is wet?
Stop. The planner is for new fill only. Wet, moldy, or rodent-damaged insulation comes out first, at its own price, then the deck can be sanitized and blown.
Text the range. A photo of the hatch is better.
Call, or send the planner. A photo of the hatch helps.
